Dr. Christian Pletzing
Could there be worlds to discover behind the "Iron Curtain"? The teenager Christian Pletzing was already preoccupied with this question. As a student of history and political science, he moved from Münster to Berlin and then to Poland for a year.
However, archives and libraries, seminars and workshops could not fulfill the interests of the historian fully. Therefore, his travels by car or bike again and again led him to mid- and eastern Europe. For Christian Pletzing Europe is mostly the encounter of people beyond borders.
In 2000, international seminars all about the Baltic sea region took him to the north: First, to the Baltic-Academy Travemünde, then to the Academia Baltica in Lübeck. He became director of the Sankelmark Academy Centre in 2011. Here, he is not only concerned with politics and Europe, but also with tasks such as equipping the restaurant, the energy-efficient refurbishment of the building and the development of digital education programmes.
